MISSION TRIP - FRIDAY

HOLA!! We woke up, got picked up by Padre Miguel and went to the church.  The night before we went to WALMART Surprised and bought balls, playdough, bubbles, frisbees, and other crafts.  We ate breakfast and bagged rice and beans. Then we served out some rice and beans to people. We offered a ride home to a women and little boy (Alan). When we arrived to her "Colonia" (neighborhood), she asked if we could take food to her friends who lived nearby...so we did...and we met the family and Amanda held their newborn baby.  It was very touching that they trusted us enough to offer to hold their baby. Then we went to an orphanage for disabled people ranging from 4 to 44 years of age.  This orphanage is the only one for children with disabilities in Northern Mexico. The children were very excited when we walked through the door. It didn't take long for them to warm up to us. The smiles on their faces warmed our hearts.(cheesy but so very true!!) We were supposed to spend just a short time at the orphangage...but we were so involved with the children we stayed two hours!  Then we went back and ate lunch and took a siesta in the pews in the church. After siesta, we visited a neighborhood and while Father Miguel preached. We occupied their children by playing baseball, kickball, relays, decorating visors, making bracelets, and decorating crosses. There were many children which at times was overwhelming, but we handled it well.  After spending two hours in this neighborhood, we went back out to a different neighborhood and did the same thing. These children were better behaved and we knew what to expect this time. This made it less hectic.  It was about 8:30 by the time we left the second neighborhood.  We headed back to TEXAS and said goodbye to Father Miguel. We will miss him.

THINGS THAT MOVED US:
Brianna- Having to relate to kids in a different language
Alli- Being with all the children and making them smile
Nat- Seeing and playing with all the cute kids
Brittany-The kids from the orphanage and how one girl connected with me
LeeAnn- The ninety-two year old lady whacking the cactus to sell in the market (by the way she had 15 children!!)
Callie-Giving toys to the kids
Amanda-Spending time with the special needs children at the orphanage
Miss Melanie - The overwhelming feeling of emotion I felt when I walked into the orphanage and met children who were without a loving family AND were medically fragile. It was a beautiful sight to see our girls entertaining them.
Miss Dee Dee - Watching our young women open their hearts and minds in some overwhelmingly difficult situations...Seeing God's Grace shining in their spirit and in their love for the people they are serving and each other. (ok the lady with the machete was impressive as well.)

  Dios te Bendiga!!!!!
